Overview

Project Introduction

"Community Engagement through Service-Learning" is the title of this program that works on the issue of local urban farming this semester. The journey that we've gone through is shown by this title: we've engaged the young generation to raise their awareness of urban farming and organic life. Since we focus on marketing strategy, we've put lots of effort into promotion on Instagram and launching an online campaign. Before we've come out of the final solution, we were taught to make use of the Design Thinking method, while there's been lots of research and interviews conducted in order to identify the issues in the local agriculture. Therefore, we were able to generate ideas and solutions that can be applied to other urban areas outside Hong Kong in order to achieve sustainable development goals. Here's the start of our journey for this project as follows:

Design Thinking

Design Thinking is a creative and innovative thinking process. We use this method to find a solution to solve the needs of a community. We have listed the core concepts of design thinking as follow:

EMPATHY

Going down to the community and interviewing the community members in order to understand their needs.

First, we interviewed the local farmer and the Rooftop Republic, getting to understand their background and their needs. We used open questions to receive more information for us to brainstorm our prototype.

There are 17 SDGs, which are a call for action by all countries- developed and developing- in a global partnership.  They recognize that ending poverty and when other deprivations work together with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth while tackling climate change and preserve our oceans and forests.
