Service-learning project sounds like volunteering for the minority, right? It did give me such a picture before joining the first class. I still remembered in the first lecture, Professor Zoe has emphasized the concept of design thinking in this course. I was wondering if this was a golden chance for me to practice my designing skills and innovation. And now, I can tell you "Yes, it did."
After I was settled in the promotion and marketing group, I was excited as I had related working experiences in my previous internship. Initially, I was confident in presenting my ideas and inspirations for the solution in the group. I thought mine was amazingly great for engaging the trend of teenagers. However, I found that involving design thinking into the real project was far more than innovation. Instead of talking in words, more importantly, it's the pieces of work that we build our campaign step by step. Through this project, I was able to work with the professional advisers in the marketing field and easing with the communities in need in a real situation, which inspired us to have an enhancement in our event. I could see my weakness in these practices when improvements were seen. Once I decided to drop this course due to the fear and anxiety about my performance as I didn't want to embarrass my groupmates and professor. However, with the encouragement from the advisers and professor, I finally calmed myself down and made such a successful event with my wonderful teammates.

Instead of a course, I would like to say this is a journey for my growth. When I look back on this track, I felt so grateful to have fantastic cooperation with different people. Apart from the design thinking techniques, communication with the different communities is the biggest lesson. There would not be so many chances for us to exchange culture and value with the US and Japanese students in other courses. This experience has made me wonder if I'm going to explore more service-learning projects with other communities or overseas in the rest of my college life.
